The Experience

Starting a new business can be very scary because you are putting yourself in the public eye. Everyone will have an opinion whether it may be good or bad, just understand there will be opinions.  My first words of advice would be to find something that you are passionate about so that it doesn't feel like an actual job or chore.  Do lots of research by watching as many YouTube videos as you possibly can, use social media to search for ideas  and look at other business sites as well.

You want to make sure your brand is a reflection of your personality, everything should make sense.  No matter what you decide to venture into, always stay true to yourself  and be confident in your business.

Throughout your journey there will be lots of highs and many lows.  Some days you may get 100 visitors in your store the next day you may only get 5 visitors; stay in the race.  There will be times that you question your products and ask yourself if people like what you have to offer. Sometimes it is not about if people like it or not, but about the audience that you are attracting.  Make sure that when you are on social media that you are following people who are into the same business as yourself.

When it comes to support and promoting your business, be your own cheerleader and promote your business ALL THE TIME.  Don't worry about what others are going to say.  Remember, when you don't have a huge following on social media or a huge support system you must PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE!!  Reach out to other small business owners  to establish a rapport, you'd be surprised how helpful it can be.  Another really good way to push and promote your business is by doing giveaway contests to your followers.  They are a lot of fun and it gives you an opportunity to engage with your audience.

IG stories are also extremely helpful.  Your stories reach a lot of of people outside of your followers.  Posting polls, questions and suggestions is another way to reach and engage with lots of people.

People love to watch videos.  Make little short videos about your business and products you sell.  Your followers will always want to see what your product looks like in live form rather than just a picture. Make sure you have excellent lighting and be very detailed and sound CONFIDENT.

For every mistake you make, turn it into a lesson.  This is your journey and your experience never let anyone discourage you.  Stay focused, be consistent and most importantly be true to yourself and your brand.

I personally want to thank the people I know for supporting Melanin-girls. If no one sees anything on website they like, I challenge you to buy it and give to a homeless person, they are always appreciated.
